Where can teens work? Prior to looking for employment, teens should research the local Labor Laws. For example, in the United States the Fair Labor Standards Act sets the minimum age requirements. The Retail Industry– Good with counting and balancing a cash register? Teens could be a cashier! Many retail shops are also looking to employ sales associates or if you like to be behind the scenes there are inventory stock clerks. These positions attract teens because they normally have afternoon and weekend part time hours. The retail space covers grocery stores, clothing stores, or convenience stores.

The Food Service Industry– A benefit of working at a restaurant you might get a free meal. Key roles the food industry is always trying to fill are bussing tables, hosting, or taking orders. Places to look into are ice cream shops, smoothie shops, cafes, and fast food restaurants.

Not looking for a formal position quite yet, teens could always offer a service to neighbors, family, and friends. Babysitting, pet sitting, tutoring, lawn care services that are always in need.
